Synopsis:

The present perfumery built up on a slow transformation over the ages: in Ancient Egypt first of all, perfumes were dedicated to the sacred and the fragrant products were only handled by the priests. Breaking the link with the sacred, perfume then becomes a pharmaceutical product to treat and avoid disease. The synthetic perfumery lastly puts an end to the link with nature by excluding the plant and animal components from the formulas. The perfume then becomes a pure commercial product.
